HISTORY: AVIATECA was established on 1929 as Aerovias de Guatemala. In 1945, the airline was nationalized during the government of Juan Jose Arevalo and stablished as Empresa Guatemalteca de Aviacion S. A., which was shortened to Aviateca. Aviateca started operations in March 1946 and early aircraft operated by the carrier included the Douglas DC-3. Aviateca is now known as Avianca Guatemala and is headquartered in Guatemala City. The airline is now a subsidiary of Avianca.
